How was your Thanksgiving break, Paul?

-I was sick with a cold and took all kinds of pills! I nevertheless had a very nice, relaxing time, spending the majority of my existence at home wearing pajama pants and drinking tea.
-I rediscovered my love for Shojo manga; I haven't read Kare Kano for a over a year. I thought I didn't like this series anymore after realizing it had a skewed, idealistic, almost worshipful view of love, but now I like it because, though that IS indeed the case at times, it's still hilarious, has characters I like that are well-developed, and is often emotionally moving. Anyway, don't read Shojo manga like that unless you want to try to like it...
-I bought Don Quixote and read some of it. Don Quixote is the funniest "classic" book I've read so far; I recommend it! It gets even better as it goes, since it moves towards using more and more dialogue as it goes. It starts showing more than telling, and all that. WOO!
-I made an anime calendar through CafePress and will get it in the mail soon. If it meets my Koalaity Standards, I'll sell it on Warnerburg AND IT'LL BE SWEET
-Saw some Kenshin and had some mad hangoutz. In the process of hangoutz, discovered the band Dragonforce, which seems to be the embodiment of one of my stereotypes or of an archetype of ADHD 80's-ish rock and roll, to the point of grandeur and absurdity and delight.

And now, YARGH, time for three weeks of work, but thankfully these will decrease in stress levels as they go. Thank God for a relaxing break! My last break was not so hip!

The blogs of you Illinois people seem to have died… but I don’t usually feel like blogging these days either. I joined Netflix again! Thank goodness. I’m liking life pretty well here. There are SO MANY LIBRARIES here (full of an alarming amount of manga). Work is good, people are good, church is good, etc. At work we still listen to the Bilbo Baggins song from one to three times per day. I’ve finished six pages of a comic so far, but I don’t want to put them on the internet yet. (Just to let you know I’m not letting this valuable drawing time go to waste…)

I’m playing Shadow of the Colossus – it’s very cool. It’s like nothing but awesome boss battles and giant cool landscapes.

I’m watching Martian Successor Nadesico now, and I love it! It makes fun of Evangelion and scifi anime and anime in general, so that’s great, but it also has an interesting plot and really cool action scenes. I was really surprised at how funny it is, since I’d looked at the manga version of it a while back (it was BORING). Nadesico’s referenced in Megatokyo, so that’s cool too. Other two shows I’m watching: Fruits Basket, which is wonderful, and Heat Guy J, which is full of fighting man-robot fury.

So I’ve been catching up on depriving myself of enjoyable media at school, I guess. The strange dreams should begin soon as well, since I have this much anime input again. See you Peoria peeps at the end of June!

I'D RATHER BE DRAWING NOW

I’m in Grand Rapids now! It’s very cool! Here’s my life chunks in a nutshell since school ended.

SCHOOL
School was quite hard, and now it’s over. It was a sea of work spotted with islands where I spent time with friends. I was so ready to get out of there that I didn’t even say goodbye to my roommate (I felt bad about this).

MY 5ish DAYS AT HOME
They were sweet! I drew a cool pic with my tablet, I spent time with friends & family, and I saw some sweet-action anime. Anime!

MY HOUSE IN GRAND RAPIDS
I live with four guys, three of which like to play Melee and who are dedicated to improving themselves! There’s lots of smoking and drinking going on all up in here (done by other people), but not in the way that makes a person stupid (usually). Other people come hang out here a lot too, so I’ll meet new people. Whee! I live upstairs with my tablet. The town we’re in has TONS OF GIANT TREES. I love big trees! I can’t get over them! I’ve experienced a bit of a deficit of natural beauty this semester, being in the dungeon all the time, so having so much green around is wonderful.

MY JOB
I love it! My work team is in a lofted area above a sea of cubicles, so it’s like we’re the kings and queens of them all. We don’t have cubicles up in our area, we have a bunch of tables – this lends itself to lots of banter (we can all see each other), and the people there are pretty funny. This is also cool because nobody eats food loudly or strums out accursed little ditties on their desks (this stuff happened in the dungeon – there was one dungeon kid who’d always bang out whatever idiotic, frenetic crap that happened to be going through his head, onto his computer desk. I will never forgive him for that). I haven’t really had to do much yet, but that’ll probably change soon.

ISD is over! Now it’s time to get my life back on track. Nothing left but exams, which will be like walking or breathing compared to ISD, which was like walking or breathing IN HELL.

I had a dream about our ISD prof, Dr. Aguilar. I was in his house, and I could see him walking around at the top of a flight of stairs. He had a blank, crazed look in his eyes and was lurching around like a zombie. His wife was beside him, and she explained to him that sometimes Dr. Aguilar would eat people in his sleep, on accident. They had tried to have more children in the past, but once this behavior started, one thing led to another, and they decided to stop trying. She explained that this wasn’t his fault; he couldn’t help it! He’s asleep!

So that was pretty cool. Our ISD project application was fantastic and glorious, and Dr. Aguilar told us we did an outstanding job, so w00t. Was it worth it? Hopefully I learned a valuable lesson and didn’t just get a grade for this. I never plan to code so constantly ever again. With ISD and my programming job I was doing nothing but coding and now I’m sick of it.

Anyway, who cares? I have a tablet!
